Head constable Basappa, succumbed to injuries he sustained in a terrorist attack on CRPF personnel in Srinagar on Monday. Suspected terrorists opened fire on the vehicle carrying a CRPF unit, at Sempora which falls under Pathankot area.
Police reports confirmed it as a terrorist attack, stating that at least six soldiers were injured in the firing. While one jawan succumbed to his injuries, two others are reported to be in a critical condition. The terrorists are reported to have fled the scene as chaos ensued as a result of the shooting.
The CRPF jawans were on their way to Srinagar for the soon approaching bypolls of the Lok Sabha.
The driver of the vehicle, who is a civilian is also said to have sustained injuries in the attack. A ten year old girl who was caught in the crossfire, is reported to be injured as well.
This is reportedly the third attack on soldiers in the valley in the last few days. In Nowhatta, which is in old Srinagar, one policeman was killed in a grenade attack by terrorists on Sunday. At least 15 other people of the security force were injured in this attack.
Two jawans were said to have sustained injuries in another attack by terrorists on April 1st, as their convoy passed through Parimpora-Pantha bypass.
Tensions are mounting in the valley and tempers flying high due to the increasing number of attacks on security forces. With all major political parties getting embroiled with one another, normal life for residents of Srinagar has come to a standstill.
