Two years after Hollywood power couple Ben Affleck and Jennifer garner had announced to separate, comes their decision to dissolve their marriage officially. The pair had announced their intention to go their separate ways a day after their 10th wedding anniversary back in 2015. In their statement back then, they had claimed to focus solely on the emotional and overall well being of their children – 11 year old Violet, 8 year old Seraphina and 5 year old Samuel. They stayed true to their commitment of co-parenting in the two years that followed, going on family trips together and keeping their children a priority.
Now they have filed for divorce to make the split legal. During the two years between then and now, the estranged couple has seen several ups and downs. While the world was impressed as the dignity with which they conducted themselves after the split was unheard of in most Hollywood separations, not all was as perfect as it seemed.
They were soon hit by the “nanny-gate” scandal. Rumors began doing the rounds that Ben Affleck was seeing their nanny – Christine Ouzounian, after she tipped off the paparazzi that she was about to meet with him in a rented accommodation where he was staying at the time. She was photographed by the paparazzi pulling up in a Lexus that seemed to belong to Affleck, and handing him a Champagne bottle. Soon there were speculations that she was the reason for the split, and that Affleck had been seeing her while still married to Jennifer. His reps slammed the rumors as baseless and untrue on all accounts. The issue died down after a while and Garner was even pictured with Affleck and their children, noticeably accompanied by the new nanny.
The divorce it is claimed could not be anymore amicable, with both Affleck and garner filing without lawyers. Both their petitions ask for joint physical and legal custody of their children. They have left blank the option of spousal support, in which case judge could award it before the divorce is made final. It’s been rumored that the former couple are still negotiating a reasonable financial settlement. The divorce could be finalised in 6 months or even less.
