Bollywood actor Prateik Babbar last seen in the movie “Issaq” in 2013 opens up about his struggle with substance abuse, claims he is still a “work in progres.” Prateik made a magnificent debut in movie Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na where he played brother to Genelia D’Souza. He impressed critics and fans alike with his performance in the movie and followed it up with another powerful performance in Dhobi Ghat. The actor revealed how he took to drugs at a young and tender age, coming out of rehab when he was all of 19.
While scores of fans showered him with love even when his movies seemed to fail to make a mark, all the attention apparently bothered him. He said that fans were under the impression that he led a happy life but all was not well with him. He felt he was showered with attention because people felt pity on him – owing to his hard past of having lost his mother (the supremely talented Smita Patil) while still a baby. Prateik says he is now done with drugs completely and is ready for a new beginning. He has also reverted back to using his surname “Babbar” which he had earlier refused to accept. He said the countless stories and rumors of his parents and their relationship clouded his judgement, and he wanted only to be known as his mother’s son and not Raj Babbar’s. But all seems to be well now and he has even patched up with his father. He also gets along well with his half-siblings Juhi and Aarya Babbar.
Losing his beloved grandmother who raised him was like losing a second mother to Prateik. Add to that the breakup with Amy Jackson, and Prateik had tremendous hurt to deal with. The breakup with Amy left him void and null he says. People who knew him, constantly told him he was dating only to fill the void of a woman in his life and not because he actually wants to be in a relationship. He says now that he will not be in a relationship just for the sake of it. Currently though, all he seems to be interested in is his second innings in Bollywood. We wish him the best of luck in his endeavours and hope to watch some amazing work from him in the near future.
