Voted by many as one of the best art festivals in the world, the International Folk Art Festival will be held at Santa Fe from July 14th to 16th this year. The highly awaited event is on the itinerary of all art and culture lovers around the world. The festival will feature over 150 artists from around 54 countries at Museum Hill (Santa Fe, New Mexico). Li Edelkoort, prominent design educator and founding dean of Hybrid Studies (Parsons) will serve as the International Market’s Honorary Chair this year. She will speak with Market artists and VIPs during Market week on the importance of artisanal creativity and wisdom in modern day and age.
The event will feature widely celebrated artists as well as new and upcoming artists. Around 54 new artists as well as 106 returning artists are expected at the festival this year. This includes artists from four countries that have not been represented before – Jordan, Argentina, Tanzania and Tajikistan. These skilled artists will showcase works that will blur borders, taking globalization to new levels. Attendees will have scores of handmade items to go through which include wood carvings, basketry, jewelry, ceramics, glass & metal works, toys, textiles and sculpture among others.
Visitors will enjoy good music and delicious food as they look around and purchase beautiful works of art and crafts. Prices will of course vary from easily affordable to costly collectibles depending upon individual works. But there is no doubt that choices will be plenty. There will also be a special exhibition held called ‘Innovation Inspiration’ which is a new venture this year. This will feature innovative works of around 30 artists, re-interpreting time-honored techniques and materials. Their attempt is to express with such works new meaning in this day and age.
The Market has been widely appreciated for its artist-centered focus and model. It has been supported by esteemed global leaders such as the World Craft Council and UNESCO through longtime loyal partnerships. Since its inception at 2004, the International Market has helped more than 800 artists from around 90 countries earn up to $25 million collectively, impacting the lives of more than a million people.
The Market encourages artists and empowers them to be community leaders cum entrepreneurs not just during Market time but all year round. So if you’re an art and culture lover, waste no time and book tickets here https://www.folkartalliance.org/events-programs/international-folk-art-market-santa-fe/
