“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien
See! I told you that in my previous blog posts. Love food and it will cherish you with satisfaction. With the same zeal I happened to travel down straight from North to South in search of more food and varieties. And my legs stopped right in Hyderabad, the city of Pearls and Char Minar. Walking into the streets and finding the tags of Biriyani everywhere wasn’t what I wanted to see. But let me tell you that Biriyani is not the only dish available with limelight there. There is more to Hyderabad than what we know.
Hyderabadi Biriyani is what you get to hear everywhere. It is the only dish that grows in heights day by day which makes people book cheap flights to Hyderabad just to savor the taste. I would rather not talk much about it because you all know what it is. But if you still wish to know about it, you can go through this article that was written by one of the new friends I made in India. Check for Hyderabadi Biriyani! That might allure you into booking cheap flights to India from USA or your country.
Now let’s talk about something that you must have heard but wouldn’t have paid much attention to. This dish is pretty famous in Hyderabad and there is no one who is really not aware of it in Hyderabad. You might even get to see this in the international airports in Hyderabad during the months of Ramzan. Before talking about its origin and all, I would like to tell you that there are two meanings to the name of this dish. And the name starts with ‘H’. Any guesses? Yes you’re almost there! Right! It’s Haleem! Firstly let me tell you that Haleem or Halim is an Arabic masculine given name which means gentle, forbearing, mild, patient, understanding, indulgent, slow to anger, “what we call a civilized man”. In Islam, al-Halīm is one of the Names of God in Islam. That was what the Muslims told me and so did Google. Then coming to the second meaning, Haleem is a South Indian Arabian dish that happens to hold a sensational recipe. The original recipe of Haleem is believed to have been an Indian experiment with an old Arabian dish called Hareesah. It comprises of meat, cinnamon, wheat and a lot of Ghee in significance. The dish was welcomed into the Nizam’s kitchens to become popular somewhere in the 1930’s. But then what good is a food without an Indian touch and spices? So they adopted it, loved it and then made modifications to turn it into an Indian dish (South Indian to be precise). This addition of ingredients according to Indian taste gave birth to the present day “Haleem”. The Hyderabadi Haleem is the best one can taste in India. It has a great blend of spices like cumin seeds, cinnamon, saffron, pistachios, cashews, almonds, milk, cardamom, cloves, various dals and other variety of dry fruits. It is adorned with fried onions, coriander and lemon. Already drooling for it? I knew it would tempt you to book even last minute flights to India. In fact, this dish is not just famous in India. You will even get to find this dish in some of the international airlines while on board. So if anyone is visiting Hyderabad during the holy month of Ramadan (Ramzan) by boarding any flights such as direct flights to India, tell them to take time to taste and enjoy the world-famous and delicious Hyderabadi Haleem. It will be a regret if you board back into your pre-booked non-stop flights without tasting this dish. Rush down to the authentic places like Pista House, Shah Ghouse and Shahdab in Hyderabad and grab your part of Haleem.
Let me tell you a secret! The best thing I have heard is about businessmen who come here very often because Hyderabad is an IT hub. These people come very strict faced by booking business class flights to India and maintain a poise to keep distance personally. But there are innumerable people who got closer after tasting the Haleem. Those ‘late-night-after-meeting-Haleem-sessions’ brought people closer to each other and there was no more a stone face. Hyderabad is always a good host and is known to send people back with smiles and a heart full of content. I have seen it all and I am glad about it. I would really want to ask all my people out there to book cheap flights from USA to India and come here to experience this specialty of Hyderabad. There are innumerable online travel agencies and Indian Eagle is the one I chose to book my cheap flights to Hyderabad. You can also find yours here and I am sure you can afford to visit this piece of paradise. So hurry up people. And do not forget to stay in touch for the next best South Indian Dish.
