Mumbai: While Bollywood mourns another talented actor gone too soon, his wife has opened up about their tumultuous relationship. Actor Inder kumar who made his Bollywood debut in 1996 with Masoom and went on to feature in at least 20 movies, passed away on 28th July due to a cardiac arrest at his home in Four Bungalows (Andheri). The actor featured in prominent supporting roles as well in movies like Wanted, Kahin pyar na ho jaye, Tumko na bhool Payenge and others. His bright career was cut short after he suffered a freak accident in 2002 on the sets of his film Maseeha. He fell out of a helicopter while trying to do his own stunt and suffered a broken vertebra which left him bedridden for the next five years. He married Sonal Kariya, his mentor Rajoo Kariya’s daughter in 2003 but the marriage did not last. Sonal has now spoken up about their split after Inder’s tragic demise.
Inder Kumar’s ex-wife Sonal Kariya, in an interview with SpotboyE.com revealed how the actor couldn’t get over his ex-flame actress Isha Koppikar. Sonal left Inder while still pregnant with their first child claiming he did could not get the actress out of his mind. She said, “He couldn’t forget Isha Koppikar. I think it was a case of ‘first love cannot be forgotten.’ At times, he used to tell me that he is going to meet her. I even told him to get her home sometimes, but he did not. I think he was in touch with her even after we divorced each other. He wouldn’t show it too much and he didn’t tell me either – but I could sense that he couldn’t shake off Isha from his mind. Maine shaadi ke time bhi suna tha that he hasn’t forgotten Isha but I ignored the hearsay.” For those who don’t know, Inder Kumar and Isha Koppikar dated for nearly a decade after which they broke up. She went on to marry Timmy Narang while Inder married Pallavi Saraf in 2013 with whom he shares a daughter Bhavana, born in 2014.
Sonal also added that Inder’s habits of alcohol and drugs made it difficult for their marriage to survive. She claimed she tried every trick in the book to get him to kick the habits but he was always for the large part of the day ‘in his own world.’ She said that Inder never bothered to keep in touch with their daughter Khushi, whom Sonal was pregnant with when she filed for divorce from him. Sonal believes they were not destined to be together. She says she is in touch with Inder’s current wife Pallavi on social media and that she is a nice enough person.
Isha Koppikar has since expressed grief over Inder’s sudden demise. She stated that had he let go of certain ‘bad habits,’ he had an incredible amount of talent to make it big in Bollywood. She said he had several ups and downs in his life, and wished he’d been more responsible. We pass on our condolences to the grieving family of Inder Kumar and hope he is remembered for the incredible talent he was.
