MOVIES OF BOLLYWOOD
It is been said that Cinema is the mirror of society. And if we believe in that statement then some movies certainly contradict the truth. They were much ahead of their time.
I always prefer associating good movies with Indian Cinema rather than tagging them as Bollywood. Lately, Bollywood has had experienced its own stoop.
That said, we cannot undermine what Indian Cinema (specifically from the genre of Hindi Cinema, as we are aware Regional Cinema have their own gems) has been facilitating us with stupendous stories and we have always seen them experimenting with the likes of ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron’ to ‘Mera naam Joker’ and also from ‘Lipstick under my Burkha’ to ‘Margarita with a Straw’. Sure there are few fascinating movies mentioned under this thread. In my individual opinion, there is more in store when we list down the movies that have a different treatment and their stories were way ahead of the time. Here are two such masterpieces from the old times which will carry you into a different world of realization.
With 2 national awards in its kitty, this directorial of Gulzar of 1988 is less popular and was timeless. The film revolves around a couple who were separated and parted their ways for many years. Accidentally met in a railway station waiting room, the story progress as they discover certain truths about their lives without each other. Having moved on in their life, they reminisce about their current lives. With the exceptional performance by stunning Rekha and magnetic Naseerudin Shah, this movie is a ‘must watch. A movie which makes you wonder how Indian cinema has deteriorated lately, as it got crippled and tags the partners from premarital bonds as abusers, life-wreckers, or potential molesters.
Along with bagging a national award for best lyrics, this movie was our official entry for Academy Awards in Foreign Language. A movie which uplifted a social issue and escalated the career graph of Anupam Kher with his screen debut in the movie as the ailing father. It is a story about an elderly couple who lost their young son and as they trying to come to terms with his death, saving the life of their unmarried pregnant tenant (Soni Razdaan) becomes the ultimate goal of their life. The entire cast and crew along with Anupam, Rohini, Soni, and Madan have brought their characters to life. And therefore the movie for its bold treatment seems to be magnanimous and ahead of its time.
