People who are brave enough to visit the beach generally comprise of college kids and similar thrill seekers.
The story behind the haunting
Reportedly, the beach, which is famous for its smooth black sand and crystal clear waters, used to be a Hindu cremation site ages ago. Locals believe the souls of those cremated here haunt the beach. They even believe that the beach gets its dark sand because it was mixed with the ashes of the cremated people. They claim that the souls that haunt the beach are ones who aren’t at peace and have some unfulfilled wishes which some of them try to communicate to visitors at the beach. People say the ghosts don’t like being disturbed and will react violently toward those they feel are intruding upon their territory. While these may be just stories, people are still discouraged to visit the beach after dark. If facts are to be believed, several people have lost their lives trying to solve the mystery of the beach haunting. Some people claim that when they tried to capture strange shadows and foggy apparitions on their cameras, their equipment would malfunction inexplicably.
You can still visit the beach of course as it’s one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area. Places of interest in Dumas other than the beach include the Dariya Ganesh Temple which is just adjacent to the beach. The promenade has scores of shops selling things such as snacks and other items. There are several restaurants in the vicinity as well which serve delicious cuisines of various places. But those who are fascinated by the beach should definitely pay it a visit. Just pay heed to local advice and don’t venture out there after dark. Do your exploring in the daytime and prefer to go with a group of people as opposed to alone.
