Let’s hear the good news! You have successfully booked your flight tickets. Woohoo! Now the bad news? You cannot sleep on an airplane. Oh no!
If you are one of those people who can fall asleep just with a swish and a flick then you surely must not have trouble sleeping on an airplane. But if you are an insomniac like me and keep on tossing and turning, then I welcome you to join hands with me because I feel you there! Imagine you have a long haul flight to board and the most irksome thing that is going to happen ahead is ‘lack of sleep’! Then your entire day will go bad. I personally had a lot of trouble traveling in the air because sleep wasn’t very friendly with me on board. Eventually I got acquainted with these ideas and finally, I can sleep peacefully now wherever I go. So if you wish to sleep peacefully on an airplane, try reading the tips that I am going to mention below.
A QUIET SPOT IS THE BEST SPOT!
Choosing a quiet, unnoticed spot is always the best thing you can do if you want to sleep peacefully. Usually, the window seats are the preferable ones if you wish to doze off without being disturbed. They offer you a soothing view and if you are an admirer of clouds, trust me you will sleep sooner than later. So these window seats are basically available if you are lucky enough or if you book your tickets in advance. But if you have booked your tickets at the last minute, then you should be looking for the seats in the last because that is where you find less number of passengers and sometimes even zero. This way you can even use the seats beside yours to stretch. How lucky!
UNBUCKLE YOUR SEAT QUIETLY!
Now, this is a really sneaky thing to do because you are actually not allowed to do this on board. Your instructor or the air-hostess will make sure that you have your seats buckled to keep you safe. But the inner secret is that seatbelts ruin our naptime with their tightness. So what you can do is settle down safely, unbuckle your seatbelt but make sure to keep it over your body to show that you still have it on. This way you are not only finding some space to toss and turn but also avoiding being scolded by the beautiful hostesses. Now keep this a secret. Will you?

SHH! NO MORE UNNECESSARY CONVERSATIONS!
If you are a talkative person, then this one is going to be a real-time challenge for you because you need to shut that mouth of yours and let the excitement drain out of your body for a while. Looking here and there, talking to the fellow-passengers, exchanging numbers, items, talks laughs and then it just never ends. That means you go zero scopes to sleep on an airplane. So stop talking. Once you are nestled comfortably in your seats, just close your eyes or look out the window and try calming down. Take deep breaths and think about something boring that will push you to sleep for sure.
DID YOU WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHES?
Clothing is a very important thing if you wish to sleep to come soon. The comfort levels have to be considered and that is why you need to see if you are wearing comfy-clothes. Those sparkly-itchy clothes or tight jeans with belts and heavy tops will just ruin your sleep. So wear something soft, comfortable and really flexible for you to travel and sleep.
SAY ‘NO’ TO EXCESSIVE DRINKING!
Drinking can involve anything. Too much of water can make you feel puckish or you might have to go to the washroom often. Too much of alcohol can get you sick and you might end up with diarrhea or even worst, with a migraine. Too much of any juice or any other drink will just make you restless since you are in the air. So make sure to have a limited amount of water or drinks or any liquids to keep yourself in check and not feel restless.
CARRY YOUR COMFY-CUSHIONY ITEMS!
Carry a pillow with an eye-mask and with a comforter if you wish to because that way you will be even more comfortable to sleep on an airplane. When you feel like you are in your bed that is when you get to sleep well. So get that homely feeling and comfort to sleep well.
IF NOTHING WORKS, POP UP A PILL!
Now, this has to happen in the most hopeless cases as a medication is not something that is advisable. I had to take them once or twice when I was extremely restless and sleep wouldn’t come easily. So have a doctor handy to prescribe you with sleeping pills and then you can easily pop one in your mouth to fall asleep undoubtedly.
