Being an enthusiastic traveler, you know there are plenty of underrated places around the world but bet me, no country can beat the areas of the vast and diverse India. You may spend a lifetime exploring India and what if I say even a lifetime falls short to reach every beautiful place in the country! The land of cultural diversity has a lot to surprise a traveler from popular tourist destinations to the most remote areas that deserve way more attention than what they receive.
In this post, I have tried bringing into light, the most remote places in India that every traveler needs to explore.
Tinchuley in West Bengal
Although settled amidst the popular tourist attractions in the state – Siliguri and Darjeeling, Tinchuley remains to be a remote village in India still away from the rush. It is a perfect getaway for peaceful strolls, relaxing family outings and the spectacular view of the surrounding peaks is worth a glance. On reaching the view points on the chimney-looking peaks, you can catch a breathtaking glimpse of Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Gangtok and even Mt. Kanchenjunga.
Mainpat in Chhattisgarh
You must be aware of the Tibetan settlements in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh but, do you have any idea about a group in Chhattisgarh? A bevy of Tibetan refugees reached Sitapur in 1960s, started working as construction workers and got settled in Mainpat. You can visit Mainpat for the Thakpo Shedupling Monastery, amazing Tibetan hospitality and of course the succulent Tibetan food. Interested to experience the warm hospitality? No worries if you haven’t got the flight reservations done yet, now you can book last minute flights without any fuss.
Nighoj in Maharashtra
Located only 90 kilometers from the city of Pune, Nighoj is a small village settled in Ahmednagar District of Maharadshtra. The place is known for the unusual but naturally developed potholes on the riverbed of Kukadi. It is said by the geologists that perhaps in the past, the Kukadi river flowed away from the natural path on the highlands and resulted in potholes by hitting the rocks with great force. If you want to see someplace naturally invented, better head on to Nighoj in the state of Maharashtra.
Daringbadi in Odisha
Odisha is a state known for its high temperatures in summer that reaches up to 50 degree Celcius at times. Can you believe there is a place experiencing snowfall in the hot state? Daringbadi is one of the remote places in the Eastern part of India that receives snowfall in winters. You will spend your time in sheer serenity amid the thick rain forests. The hill station is also known for the existence of wild animals in abundance.
Athirapally in Kerela
You must have heard or even visited the serene backwaters and other popular hill stations in God’s Own Country, Kerela, but have you heard about Athirapally. One of the remote places in South India, Athirapally looks awe-striking. The steep waterfalls against rugged rocks create a view so irresistible that you will never want to leave he place. Admire the natural surroundings while lying on the rocks with mist from the waterfall fall on your face.
Gurudongmar Lake in Sikkim
Situated at an altitude of 17,000ft, you will find one of world’s highest lakes – Gurudongmar Lake in Sikkim. People believe that on his way to Tibet, Guru Nanak Dev Ji stopped in the area feeling thirsty. To quench the thirst, he cracked the ice using his stick that resulted in the formation of the lake. According to another belief, a part of the lake always remains unfrozen, even during chilling winters. If you are worried about your flight tickets, make the booking at Indian Eagle as it offers affordable flights to India from all across the world including flight tickets to India from USA.
Dharchula in Uttarakhand
Dharchula is beautiful town in the district of Pithoragarh in Uttarakjhand. Situated on the way to Mansarovar Lake, the town is regarded as the border town separating Nepal and India. People from both the areas can cross the town without any strict restriction unless they carry cargo with them. I wish the place got better recognition in India Tourism.
Phawngpui in Mizoram
Mizoram still strives to gain better recognition it deserves in the book of Indian tourism. Only when you visit the state, you will know what it hides under its cover. Phawngpui is the highest peak of Mizoram and one of the best places to relax in India as it offers a panoramic view of the below valleys, mountains and Myanmar Border.
Kaas Plateau in Maharashtra
Lying on the famous Sahyadri Range in the Western Ghats, Kaas Plateau is located 22 kilometers from Satara in Maharashtra. It is a plateau stretched over an area of 1000 hectares laden with beautiful wild flowers. To get the best scenic view, just like the one you would see in a B.R. Chopra film, visit this remote place in India in the month of August or September. Did you recently book business class flights to Mumbai for the upcoming business conference? Well, going to Kaas in the weekend will prove extremely worthy of your business class travel.
Tosh in Himachal Pradesh
Try imagining Kasol removing the array of restaurants, shops and hotels – this is Tosh. It is one of the most remote places in the Himalayas that deserve to be at a much significant position on the Indian tourism map. Eventually, it would become one of the favorite places for good stuff among the young hippies traveling in Himachal Pradesh. Make sure you pay a visit here with your group.
Chatpal in Jammu & Kashmir
Unfortunately, Chatpal is the most remote area in Kashmir which makes it a perfect place offering solitude to a seeking traveler. The best part about this amazing getaway in the heavenly state is the rushing white waters offering you a hint of adventure.
Haflong in Assam
What more would you seek as a traveler when you have the best of lakes, mountains and forests? All at one place! Haflong is one such place in Assam not known to many but indeed worth exploring. The breathtaking views will get you engrossed for long.
Laitmawsiang in Meghalaya
It is a little land of waterfalls in utopia – a place situated in the cave garden. You can easily rope down exploring the tiny waterfall holes amid the caves. Isn’t it beautiful? Ensure you take a dip in the cold water and soothe your soul.
