Recently, IndiGo Airlines has started taking the green route. In February 2022, the airline announced its intention of going green. In June, on account of World Environment Day (5th June), it has decided to implement its plans to increase water conservation and reduce carbon emissions.
The company has been conducting trials on ways to conserve water. As a result, it has come up with a new type of water faucet in 200 of its flights; this faucet has reduced the flow of water by at least 5 liters per hour. It is found that in a single flight duration, these water faucets have saved at least 12 liters. Currently, IndiGo operates 1,500 flights, so one can imagine how much water is being saved.
Implementation of this faucet will reduce water quantities in long-duration flights. In short flights, it will reduce carbon emissions by over 973 kg CO2 per m3. Once this is implemented, IndiGo will be the first airline company to go green.
