Seekhne nahi seekhane aaye hai; this tagline seemed true for the young side of team India who initially seemed inexperienced in English conditions but went on to draw the iconic Anderson-Tendulkar series. Considered the backbone of the Indian Cricket team, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had announced retirement from the longest format of cricket before the 2025 England vs India test series began.
Team India led by Shubman Gill had reliable star players such as Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj to lead the bowling attack. However, the batting unit was significantly inexperienced with the exception of KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja.
Team India Showed Grit in the 2025 ENGvsIND Series
After losing the first test at Headingley, Leeds, Team India bounced back in the second Edgbaston test, winning by 336 runs. The Indian side showed resilience in the third ENGvsIND test at Lord’s with Ravindra Jadeja trying his best to keep the runs coming but the team fell short of 22 runs.
The fourth England vs India test at Old Trafford ended in a draw, keeping the series alive at 2–1 and heading into the decider. Captain Shubman Gill scored his fourth century of the series. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar then batted unbeaten through the final day to deny England a win. India finished on 425/4 in the second innings.
Team India won the final England vs India test match by six runs. Mohammed Siraj starred with a five‑wicket haul, dismantling England’s lower order. England began Day 5 needing just 35 runs with four wickets in hand, but collapsed under pressure.
Road to WTC 2027
With 28 points, Team India currently holds 3rd place in the ICC World Test Championship standings, just ahead of England, who are 4th with 26 points. While it’s too early to predict outcomes for the World Test Championship 2027 cycle, this win could give the young Indian team a much-needed boost.
