India to Soon have the World’s Largest Museum in Delhi

India is on the verge of achieving a significant milestone in the world of culture and heritage with the upcoming Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum. This is set to become the world’s largest museum in Delhi. This will feature eight thematic segments that will showcase the rich and diverse history of India. Situated in the heart of the nation’s capital, within the North and South blocks, the museums in Delhi will cover a sprawling area of 1.17 lakh sqm. And will house a total of 950 rooms spread over a basement and three storeys.

Prime Minister Modi himself made the announcement of the new museum in Delhi, “Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum,” on May 18, coinciding with the International Museum Day. The digital tour provided a captivating glimpse into the museum’s gardens and galleries. This gave visitors a tantalizing taste of the experiences awaiting them.

Designed to be a forward-looking institution, the Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum will serve as a comprehensive resource for understanding India’s civilizational culture. The museum in Delhi will cover various periods, from ancient Indian knowledge to the medieval era. This will also include the transition phase, modern India, the colonial rule, the freedom struggle, and the post-independence period, along with India’s vision for the future.

The virtual walkthrough showcased exhibits highlighting ancient town planning systems, medical knowledge, the Vedas, Upanishads, and other cultural treasures. The tour also gave due attention to the empires that shaped India’s history.

The project also aims to enhance the existing International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) complex, now known as Bharat Mandapam. Developed at a cost of approximately INR 2,700 crore and sprawling across 123 acres, the complex will house the Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum. It will also have other significant collections from the National Museum on Janpath.
