Post-Pandemic Travel Recovery

In the last month of the year, 5.2 million non-US citizens arrived in the United States. This 19% year-over-year gain indicates a strong recovery, while it remains 7.6% below pre-pandemic levels.

Over six million Americans traveled internationally in December, increasing 12.6% from the previous year and 16.6% above pre-pandemic levels. The most popular international destinations were  Canada, the UK, Mexico, Germany, and the Dominican Republic.

Europe remains a popular destination, with U.S. departures up 7.4 percent since December 2019, despite overall Europe-U.S. travel falling slightly behind pre-pandemic levels. Air travel between the USA and South America, Central America, and the Caribbean increased by 19% year on year. Asia, which opened for tourism later than other regions, is still catching up.
