Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. of the Democratic Party has been elected the 46th President of the United States! In what seemed like a cliffhanger election, Joe Biden emerged victorious after winning the battleground state of Pennsylvania, the state where he was born. He secured more than the required 270 of 538 Electoral College votes and has defeated his opponent and incumbent U.S. President Donald Trump in the race for the Presidency.

Joe Biden’s running mate, Kamala Devi Harris — a U.S. Senator from California, has made history by becoming the first woman (also the first African-American and Asian-American woman) to win the second-highest office in the US. Both the President-elect Joseph Biden and the Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn into office on January 20, 2021. At the age of 78, Biden will be the oldest person ever to assume the President’s office.

On one hand, Trump refused to concede defeat and challenged the US Elections 2020 results claiming voter fraud, and on the other hand, many US cities, including Washington and New York, celebrated the victory of Joe Biden.

Biden, who succeeded in his third run for the White House, has thus realized his long-cherished dream. He began his successful political career as the fifth-youngest senator in US history when he won the Delaware Senate elections in 1972. He served six terms as a senator for Delaware and went on to serve America as Barack Obama’s Vice President for eight years.

Mr. Biden, addressing the nation for the first time as President-elect, said in his victory speech, “Let this grim era of demonization in America begin to end here and now. This is the time to heal in America.” He further said that he sought the nation’s highest office “to rebuild the soul of America, to rebuild the backbone of this nation, the middle class, and to make America respected around the world again.” He promised that he would be ‘a president who seeks not to divide but to unify; who doesn’t see red states and blue states, only sees the United States’.

Ms. Kamala Harris said that the voters had chosen “hope and unity, decency, science and truth.” Talking about her groundbreaking victory as the first woman to hold the country’s second-highest office, she revealed her optimistic spirit saying, “While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities.” She said America sent a clear message to its future generation — “Dream with ambition, lead with conviction, and see yourself in a way that others might not see you, simply because they’ve never seen it before. And we will applaud you every step of the way.”

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have launched a Biden-Harris Transition website in which the new government’s administration priorities are revealed to be Covid-19, economic recovery, racial equity, and climate change. In his victory speech, Biden said that he would begin with the plans to tackle the rise of Covid-19 cases in the US.
