Historically, the significance of Solan goes as far back as the epic of The Mahabharata; local legends say that it was here that the Pandavas spent their days in exile. Eventually, in the late medieval era of India, Solan was made the capital of the Kingdom of Baghat. This kingdom passed into the hands of the British during the colonial era.
