India won the 2025 Champions Trophy with a thrilling four-wicket victory over New Zealand at Dubai International Stadium. India wins Champions Trophy for the third time, becoming the first team to achieve the feat.

Batting first in the final, New Zealand made 251-7 in 50 overs. Daryl Mitchell rescued the innings with 63 from 101 balls, and Michael Bracewell’s rampage 53 from 40 balls added to the tally. India’s spinners were responsible for holding back New Zealand. Kuldeep Yadav (2-40) and Varun Chakravarthy (2-45) snapped important wickets, preventing the Black Caps from taking off in the last overs.

India’s Victory Over New Zealand

In pursuit of 252 for victory, the Indian side started well under the guidance of skipper Rohit Sharma, who hit 76 off 83 balls. New Zealand countered by picking three wickets for 17 runs, including Rohit and Virat Kohli.

Shreyas Iyer (48) and Axar Patel (29) had an impactful partnership but their fall left Team India 49 runs short from 51 balls. Hardik Pandya scored 18 before getting out, but KL Rahul (34) and Ravindra Jadeja helped India win the Champions Trophy with an over to spare. Fireworks illuminated the Dubai sky as the Indian team celebrated another white-ball ICC title, following the victory in the T20 World Cup 2024.

India’s Dominance in ICC Competitions

Ever since their disaster at the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, India has come back aggressively to overwhelm world cricket. Winning the Champions Trophy undoubtedly makes them the world’s best limited-overs team.

The final was initially scheduled to be held in Lahore, Pakistan, but India did not want to go there, so the match was relocated to Dubai. Even then, a huge India-fan community occupied the stadium with a home ground environment.

With this win, India vs New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final was another evergreen match in cricket history.
