Elections in India are in full swing. With Phase 2 of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 completed on 26th April, the country is vying for a change. Although the results will be announced on June 4, citizens are actively utilizing their right to vote and encouraging their acquaintances to practice their fundamental right in the Indian General Elections

Regardless of who you support or would want to vote for, as a responsible citizen of India, it is essential to cast your vote during the elections in India. The democratic nation has witnessed a lot of protests and unearthed a lot of scams ahead of the Indian General Elections 2024. And all these and a lot more have made citizens realize the importance of their vote.

Record NRIs to Cast Vote in Indian General Election 2024

According to reports, over 118,000 NRIs have registered to vote in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. 74.9 percent NRIs from Kerala are a part of this number. Additionally, approximately 6.4 percent of overseas voters hail from Andhra Pradesh, around 4.7 percent from Maharashtra, and 2.9 percent each from Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

Notably, the number of NRIs registering to vote in the Indian general elections this year has increased compared to 2014, when only 12,000 NRIs were enrolled as eligible voters. During the Phase 2 of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, over 20,000 NRIs traveled to Kerala in order to exercise their right to vote. The increase in the bookings of last minute flights to India recently also underscores the importance of NRI participation.

If you are a responsible citizen, you can exercise your right to vote by flying to India. Indian Eagle is doing its part by offering the best available airfare to the Indian diaspora in the USA. You can book flights to Ahmedabad and Hyderabad, which will vote on May 7 and May 13 respectively. Cheap flights to Delhi (voting on 25th May), Mumbai (voting on 20th May) and Kolkata (voting on 1st June) can also be booked from major cities in the USA. So, why wait? Use your right to vote and bring a positive change in India. Remember, nothing is bigger than keeping the democratic spirit of India alive!

No, at present NRIs do not have an option to vote online or cast their vote through a ballot while residing in another country. Efforts to enable postal ballots or proxy voting for Non Resident Indians have been proposed but weren’t successful due to many challenges.
