Madhya Pradesh tourism is known for its interesting campaigns that not only attract tourists but also encourage discussions both online and offline. The state has come a long way since its ‘Hindustan Ka Dil Dekho’ campaign. It worked magic for Madhya Pradesh and gave a boost to the tourism industry in the region. Since then, MP has not only promoted its ancient sites, culture and food but also its wildlife. The Pench Tiger Reserve located in Seoni district draws thousands of tourists. And now it has achieved a significant milestone of becoming India’s first Dark Sky Park.

Pench Tiger Reserve has not only become the first Dark Sky Park in India but also fifth in all of Asia. A delight for astronomy enthusiasts, this initiative aims to curb light pollution and promote the appreciation of the cosmos.

A Starry Haven in the Land of Tigers

The International Union for Conservation of Nature recognizes the importance of preserving natural darkness for ecological integrity, cultural heritage, and community well-being. In response to the global threat of light pollution, the Dark and Quiet Skies for Science and Society Working Group recommended the establishment of the Dark Sky Park in India. This certification focuses on dark sky-friendly retrofits, lighting policy, outreach, and night sky monitoring.

This certification not only grants national recognition but also brings Pench onto the international stage. Authorities expect astronomy lovers from around the world to board flights to India and head to Pench Tiger Reserve for a unique experience. This is also expected to boost astro tourism in India. With the inauguration of a night observatory funded by the district planning development committee, Pench is likely to offer an unparalleled celestial experience.

Telescopic Wonders and Dark Sky-Friendly Initiatives

The installation of telescopes, including one on a protection tower at Wagholi, showcases Pench’s commitment to reducing light pollution. Over 100 lights in surrounding villages have been replaced, facing the ground to minimize their impact.

With the aim of allowing people to stay overnight, Pench ensures an extraordinary opportunity for nocturnal jungle experiences. The Dark Sky Park certification aligns with the reserve’s commitment to conservation and providing a sanctuary for those eager to explore the universe in its pristine, natural setting.

If you are an astronomy enthusiast and would love to spend time exploring the wonders of Pench Tiger Reserve, you can search flights and plan a trip soon. And if you are on a budget, Indian Eagle plane tickets will let you save a decent amount. So, why wait? Book your itinerary and get ready to explore India’s first Dark Sky Park in 2024!
