The aviation industry got one of the largest pieces of pie in the ongoing Maharashtra Budget 2025 session. A third airport in Mumbai and plans of introducing facilities for night landing in Shirdi are some key announcements. The aim of these measures is to further improve connectivity, boost tourism in Maharashtra and reduce air traffic congestion in the region.

Mumbai’s Third Airport to Be A Major Breakthrough

The city of Mumbai is already home to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). Additionally, the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is expected to commence operations this year. Regardless of these, the increasing passenger volume indicates the need for a new airport. Furthermore, the 3rd airport in Mumbai will significantly reduce the burden on the existing airports in or around Mumbai. It will also further improve the air travel experience for all passengers on flights to Mumbai

Where will the third airport in Mumbai be located?

Although the exact location has not been disclosed. A place will most likely be finalized soon. During the Maharashtra Budget 2025, the government has promised world-class infrastructure for the airport. This project will improve Mumbai’s connectivity and strengthen its network.

Introduction of Night Landing at Shirdi Airport

Another key takeaway from the Maharashtra Budget 2025 is the introduction of night landing facilities at Shirdi Airport. Notably, Shirdi is a major pilgrimage destination. The town witnesses a high number of visitors throughout the year. However, the absence of night landing facilities has limited flight operations.

With the new provision, flight services will be able to operate around the clock. This will significantly improve connectivity for travelers, especially devotees visiting the famous Sai Baba temple. More flights are expected to be scheduled, reducing the inconvenience for visitors.

Furthermore, this move will also boost tourism in the region. Hotels, local businesses, and transport services are likely to benefit from increased visitor inflow. Additionally, the aviation sector will witness higher passenger traffic. This will strengthen Shirdi’s connectivity with major cities in India.
