UP Tourism Likely to Get a Boost with Transformation of Forts and Palaces into Heritage Hotels

The transformation of old forts and palaces into heritage hotels will likely enhance UP tourism. This initiative aims to provide tourists with unique lodging while maintaining the state’s rich heritage. Leading hospitality brands have shown interest in managing these hotels. It includes Taj Group, Neemrana Group, Leela Hotels, Mahindra Hotels & Resorts, Lalit Hotels, Hyatt Regency, and Oberoi Hotels, 

How Uttar Pradesh Plans to Enhance Tourism?

Domestic and inbound tourism in the state has increased significantly. Infrastructure is being developed to serve tourists seeking experiential tourism from all economic backgrounds. Discussions with important hotel organizations are underway to revitalize palaces and havelis per the new tourism policy through a public-private partnership (PPP).

The tourist policy requires an investment of INR 30 crores to 100 crores to convert heritage properties into hotels. Investment levels will classify heritage buildings, and investors will receive incentives and concessions.

Developing Key Historical Sites in the First Phase

In the first phase, famous places such as Chunar Fort in Mirzapur, Jal Mahal in Barsana, Chattar Manzil, Shukla Talab Haveli in Kanpur, Barua Sagar Fort in Jhansi, and Kothi Roshan-ud-Daula are planned for transformation. After receiving approval from the government, the project will be expanded to include the Tehroli in Jhansi, Mastani Mahal and Lake Palace in Mahoba, TalBehat Fort in Lalitpur, and other sites.

Apart from forts and palaces, this initiative to increase UP tourism includes other historical structures such as Baradari in Bithoor, Akbar’s hunting ground in Kirawali, and Agra. In Lucknow, Gonda, Kothi Darshan Vilas, Baradari in Wazirganj, and Kothi Gulista-e-Iram are also set for conversion.

These heritage hotels are expected to provide more than just luxurious accommodations. Tourists can look forward to wellness centers, museums, heritage restaurants, and thematic parks, all of which provide a rich cultural experience. 

UP tourism will likely increase as more sites are renovated and infrastructure improves. The initiative will not only improve the travel experience but will also create multiple employment opportunities.
