Traveling from the USA to India means traversing a distance no less than 8,100 miles, flying in a plane for 15 to 16 hours on end. And this is only when you travel on nonstop flights. The flight distance and time further go up when you take indirect routes to reach India via connecting cities in Europe or the Middle East or elsewhere. Short travel time is what makes travelers prefer nonstop flights from USA to India despite the fact that they are costlier than connecting flights. These direct routes have become the sought-after ones lately, more so during the pandemic as travelers looked for quicker and safer options to fly (layover during pandemic meant going through more restrictions).

Many airlines have tapped into the rising demand for nonstop flights to India and announced new direct routes. With this, travelers now have more options for flying nonstop from the United States to India and here we have listed all the available options.

What are the nonstop routes available to India from the USA?

Currently, nonstop flights from USA are available to four Indian cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. Nonstop USA-India flights are operated on the following nine routes:

  • New York to Delhi
  • Newark to Delhi
  • Washington to Delhi
  • Chicago to Delhi
  • San Francisco to Delhi
  • New York to Mumbai
  • Newark to Mumbai
  • Chicago to Hyderabad
  • San Francisco to Bengaluru

Which airlines offer nonstop flights from USA to India?

Air India, United Airlines, and American Airlines are the only airlines that fly nonstop between the USA and India. Air India operates most nonstop flights to India from the USA, followed by United Airlines. American Airlines restarted its only nonstop service between New York and New Delhi last year.

Air India provides direct connectivity to Delhi from San Francisco, Chicago, Washington, Newark, and New York. It also connects Mumbai with New York and Newark. Air India is also the only airline to operate nonstop Chicago-Hyderabad flights. It also flies from San Francisco to Bengaluru, one of the longest flight routes in the world.

United Airlines operates nonstop flights from San Francisco to Delhi, Chicago to Delhi, Newark to Delhi, and Newark to Mumbai. However, the Chicago-based airline announced in March 2022 the suspension of its flights from San Francisco to New Delhi and Newark to Mumbai for an indefinite period of time to avoid using Russian airspace for its international flights to India, in view of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis.

What are the upcoming nonstop flights between the USA and India?

  • San Francisco to Bengaluru flights by United Airlines
  • Seattle to Bengaluru flights by American Airlines

Although it’s been quite a few years since United Airlines and American Airlines announced their new routes between USA and India, they didn’t come to fruition and have been deferred time and again. However, United Airlines has plans to run the San Francisco to Bengaluru flights in the last quarter of this year whereas American Airlines hopes to launch its SEA-BLR flights soon.
