The mesmerizing landscape of colorful flowers and lush greenery at the Valley of Flowers in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand attracts thousands of visitors every year. As nature blooms in all its glory, you can spot an array of exotic flowers such as marigold, poppies, orchids, daisies and a lot more. But this year, the footfall at this awe-inspiring place has broken all records.

Record 20,000 Visit the Valley of Flowers in Just 5 Months

Being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Valley of Flowers draws a lot of tourists every year but in just five months of 2022, it received more than 20,000 visitors breaking its previous record of 17,424 tourists in 2019.

Why Are Experts Concerned About the Increased Footfall?

The Valley of Flowers is an ecologically sensitive tourist spot and to make sure that the fragile ecosystem of the place is preserved, a number of social activities, botanists, and even locals suggest putting a cap on the number of people visiting this place. And their concern is valid as the Tipra glacier started melting a little early this year due to the increased heat in the Garhwal Himalayan region. Also, the flowers in the valley bloomed nearly a fortnight earlier than usual. As much as exploring the beauty of this place is essential, it is also important to maintain the ecological balance.

The gushing waterfalls, wild streams and colorful surroundings may intrigue a lot of people to visit the Valley of Flowers but this increase in tourists may adversely affect the environment here.
