Akasa Air carried approximately 62.32 lakh passengers in 2023. These numbers are commendable for a new airline. Within months of its operations, Akasa Air has made its name amongst the top low-cost airlines in India. And now Akasa Air’s first international flight will likely take off on 28th March.
The rapidly growing low-cost Indian airline, is set to launch its international operations with Doha as its inaugural destination. Akasa Air is making history by venturing into international skies within 19 months since its inception. It had its inaugural flight on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route on 7th August, 2022.
Akasa Air will be Connecting Mumbai and Doha
Starting 28th March, Akasa Air will operate four non-stop flights weekly between Mumbai and Doha, enhancing air connectivity between the two nations. Doha, Qatar’s capital and a vital economic hub, was strategically chosen as the inaugural international destination. Mumbai and Doha share a robust air connection. Around 68 flights per week are operated between the cities by carriers like Air India, Qatar Airways, IndiGo, and Vistara. IndiGo is a prominent player on this route, offering 14 flights per week. In line with the increase in demand, Akasa Air will commence operations on the Mumbai-Doha route, providing enhanced travel options.
Recognized as one of the busiest air transit points in the region, Doha offers immense potential for trade and tourism. The flight route not only caters to business and leisure travelers but also serves as a reliable and affordable option for the sizable Indian diaspora residing in Qatar. Doha Hamad International Airport is also one of the top connecting points for those traveling from USA to India and vice versa. With Akasa Air starting flights to Doha from Mumbai, people will now have additional options to choose.
Akasa Air’s Massive Boeing Order
At the Wings India Summit 2024, Akasa Air made a significant purchase of 150 B737 Max aircraft from Boeing. This emphasizes its commitment to growth and passenger comfort. The substantial order, comprising Boeing 737 Max 8-200 and B737 Max 10, is slated for delivery between mid-2027 and 2032. Akasa Air’s total order of 226 Max aircraft from Boeing underscores its vision for sustained expansion.
As Akasa Air ventures into international operations, the Mumbai-Doha route marks a significant chapter in India’s aviation history. It will be a major step towards making Akasa Air as one of the world’s top 30 airlines by the end of the decade.
