Himachal Pradesh in India is set to transform its artificial lakes into vibrant tourist destinations, offering a plethora of adventure sports, scenic beauty, and cultural experiences. The government is taking initiatives to develop these artificial Lakes in Himachal Pradesh into ideal spots for water sports, bird watching, and eco-tourism.

To ensure that tourists have an unforgettable experience and prolong their stay, the government is formulating rules and regulations to govern the operations of these activities. Promoting various attractions and activities, it aims to empower the local communities and create new avenues of employment and self-employment.

Himachal Pradesh is blessed with abundant lakes and reservoirs, most of which are fed by glaciers. Recognizing the potential of lake tourism, the state government plans to enhance the infrastructure around these artificial water bodies. The aim is to promote homestays, street food hubs, restaurants, resorts, and hotels near these lakes, giving tourists a chance to engage themselves in the local culture and hospitality. Moreover, the state is keen on developing water-based attractions such as houseboats, cruises, yachts, and various water sports in its reservoirs. These initiatives will not only attract adventure enthusiasts but also provide opportunities for a leisurely exploration of the serene surroundings.

In line with the vision to create more artificial lakes, the Kangra administration has entrusted itself with the task of identifying suitable sites along perennial river routes. These lakes will span one to two kilometers and serve as stunning attractions for visitors. Furthermore, the state government has allocated 5.75 hectares of land in Nagrota for the establishment of a wellness center and an artificial lake adorned with world-class fountains. This project aims to provide visitors with a rejuvenating experience amidst nature’s tranquility.

To further enhance adventure tourism activities, the government has earmarked ₹70 crores for the development of adventure sports in Pong Dam, Kangra district. This investment will attract adventure sports enthusiasts from around the country and even abroad, boosting tourism in the state. With these ambitious plans, Himachal Pradesh aims to attract approximately 5 crore tourists over the next four to five years. Such a significant influx of tourists will not only create numerous employment opportunities but also contribute to the overall economy of the state.

This initiative to transform artificial lakes in Himachal Pradesh into vibrant tourist destinations is a commendable step toward promoting adventure tourism and enhancing the local economy. With its breathtaking landscapes, water-based attractions, and thrilling activities, the state is poised to attract travelers seeking natural beauty and memorable experiences, making it a sought-after destination.
