Chennai International Airport has started operations at Terminal 4, which provides effective relief for domestic flyers. With the inauguration of domestic services on Tuesday, November 14, directed by the Airports Authority of India, the trail of Chennai Airport T4 operations has officially begun.
The First Flight of Air India
An Air India flight started its trial with 148 people between Chennai and Port Blair. It took off on the first flight into Terminal T4. After that, the flight carrying 152 people took off between Chennai and Bengaluru indicating a potential start of operations from this new terminal. This significant change is not only applied to domestic flights but also to most flights to Chennai.
Upcoming Migration of Air Asia and Vistara
Vistara and Air Asia’s domestic flights will also migrate to the Chennai Airport T4 operations in the coming weeks, according to airport authorities. This would streamline operations at Chennai International Airport even more and enable a smooth integration. Strategic Investment: Integrated Terminal Building Phase I
At Chennai International Airport, the new integrated Chennai Airport T4 operations building phase 1 was officially started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April. It was built at a whopping amount of Rs 1,260 crore. The main aim of initiating this project was to improve services for passengers and elevate the complete airport experience.

Integrated Terminal Building’s Impact on Capacity Boost
The airport’s capacity to serve passengers will change particularly once the Chennai T4 terminal building is completed. The Chennai airport is expected to increase traffic from 23 million passengers per annum(MPPA) to an impressive 30 MPPA.
Domestic Shift to Terminal 4 Announcement
After the successful Chennai airport trial at T4 terminal, it is now completely ready to operate domestic airline services effectively. According to an official release from Chennai Airport, starting November 15, all domestic operations of Air India and Alliance Air have been relocated to Terminal 4.
