After the damage caused by Hurricane Hilary in 2023, Death Valley National Park reopens nearly 195 miles of road adventures. This major improvement adds to the park’s attraction and invites visitors to experience its stunning scenery.

The National Park Service (NPS) and the Federal Highway Administration contributed to the restoration of roads, including the beautiful Emigrant Canyon, West Side, Ibex, Saratoga, and Owlshead routes. The renovation included substantial repairs to both paved and unpaved roads, as well as debris removal and structural improvements, to ensure that all tourists travel safely and comfortably.

Exploring the National Park

The majority of the park’s attractions are now open. The effort moves to enhancing other areas, ensuring thrilling discoveries for the adventurous. Also, the park conducts critical environmental and archeological evaluations to ensure the sustainability and preservation of its unique heritage, with additional routes, such as the Titus Canyon Road, set to open to the public soon.

Last August, the remnants of Hurricane Hilary changed the environment, leading to the park’s longest closure. Also, last month, the park had extreme rainfall, which created temporary lakes that attracted tourists with the unique opportunity to kayak across the Saltwater Basin. The park, which usually receives about two inches of rain per year, has received nearly five inches of rainfall in the last six months, changing its natural history.

Death Valley Roads Reopen

Death Valley National Park’s newly reopened roads invite tourists to explore their hidden stories and amazing grandeur. The tranquil Wildrose Campground is reached by Emigrant Canyon Road, and a complicated network of side roads leads to hidden jewels. West Side Road and its branches provide access to the park’s lesser-known oasis, while the tranquil appeal of Saratoga Spring and Ibex Roads, as well as the serene walks of Owlshead Road, attract visitors seeking peace and untouched natural beauty.
