India has been revolutionizing the travel industry with new initiatives. DigiYatra is one such offering that has been effective in making airport travel hassle-free. Now the DigiYatra app is ready for expansion with an aim to cater to international passengers by the end of 2025. This makeover encompasses more than just airport procedures. It will also streamline hotel check-ins and grant seamless access to public spaces.

DigiYatra facility in India is an innovative travel initiative. 1.4 crore travelers have used DigiYatra in just 14 months since its launch. Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and the Bengaluru Airport recorded the most users. With people traveling to hometowns for the Indian General Elections 2024, this number is only expected to increase.

Integrating E-passports for International Travelers in DigiYatra App

To facilitate international travelers, the Digi Yatra Foundation (DYF) plans to integrate e-passport verifiable credentials into the app. This move aims to expedite the enrollment process and enhance security measures for foreign visitors.

DYF also plans to implement automated border control practices for departure and arrival immigration procedures. If implemented, this automation can significantly reduce waiting times by eliminating the need for physical passport verification. This will benefit both inbound and outbound passengers using the DigiYatra app.

Global Interoperability with IATA One-ID

In a bid for global interoperability, Digi Yatra Foundation plans to align with IATA One-ID. It is an initiative by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This collaboration seeks to streamline passenger journeys through advanced information sharing and contactless processes based on biometric identification.

What else will the DigiYatra makeover include?

In addition to its current offerings, DigiYatra in India will have more enhancements to further elevate the travel experience. One such feature is the introduction of a chatbot dedicated to providing customer support. This chatbot will serve as a convenient and efficient way for travelers to address any queries or concerns during their journey. By leveraging advanced technology, the chatbot will offer timely assistance and guidance. This will ensure a smoother and more enjoyable trip for all passengers.

DYF also recognizes the importance of catering to families traveling with minors. To address this need, the initiative plans to introduce a guardianship feature. This allows parents to enroll their children with ease. The new DigiYatra app feature will provide parents with peace of mind knowing that their children are safely accounted for within the DYF system. It will streamline the enrollment process and ensure a seamless travel experience for families.
