The year 2025 marked a milestone with Indian passport rank 2025 improving to 77th position. This is the highest rank India has achieved  in the last ten years. According to the Henley Passport Index 2025, Indian passport holders can enjoy visa-free travel or visa-on-arrival to 59 countries and territories . This may seem like a small change in numbers, but the data indicates a remarkable diplomatic advancement.

What’s behind this improvement?

India jumped up 8 places in the passport ranking in the year 2025, coming in 77th place. This was the most significant change for any country in the passport ranking. The Indian passport rank improved due to  new visa agreements with Sri Lanka, Philippines, as well as more accessible travel to favored destinations like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Maldives, Macau, and Myanmar.

While the rise is impressive, India’s passport remains behind front-runners Japan, Singapore, and South Korea. They were recognized as holding the “most powerful passports 2025” along with a few other countries.

What does this mean for travelers?

An improvement in the Indian passport rank 2025 index enables easier access for Indian citizens visiting Southeast Asia, the Indian Ocean, as well as some African and Caribbean nations, whether it’s for recreation, business, or education. The amount of strategic diplomacy and long-term partnerships  influencing these travel options is astounding.

India securing the 77th position is more than just a figure, it showcases the nation’s increasing standing in the world and improved relations with foreign countries. Each advancement further opens doors to the world for Indian travelers. For more updates on travel and world freedom, do follow us on City Village News.
