From January 21, 2025, the Terminal B at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) lobby will remain closed until 2026 due to a renovation project by United Airlines. This Houston Airport Terminal B lobby closure is a part of the larger renovation project where all the traveler’s modern needs will be fulfilled.

IAH Airport Terminal B Improvements

  • The development works in the Terminal B Houston Airport are as follows:
  • Enlarge the areas for check-in and claim baggage and security by TSA.
  • Install the modern baggage handling unit to meet the rising passenger traffic.
  • 22 more boarding gates to enable the operation of more flights.
  • Construct additional United Club facilities.
  • More shops and restaurants as well as facilities for passengers.

After completion, Houston Airport Terminal B will likely handle around 36 million people annually. It will significantly improve passenger and airline efficiency.

What are Changes for Passengers During Houston Airport Terminal B Renovation?

While the Terminal B lobby is closed, passengers will need to alter their routines as follows temporarily:

  • United Airlines passengers must check in and go through security at Terminal C, then take the Skyway train to reach the gates at Terminal B (B3–B31).
  • Directional signage on JFK Blvd and Will Clayton Parkway will direct passengers to the Terminal C parking garage. Though A/B parking garages will remain open, for ease of access United suggests parking at Terminal C. A shuttle service will operate complimentary between Terminal C and the A/B garages.
  • Terminal B Transformation Ambassadors in pink vests will be located at key places throughout Terminals B and C to help customers navigate the changes in the first two weeks of the lobby closure.

United Airlines informs that customers departing from Terminal B arrive 2–3 hours before their flight to accommodate these changes. The Terminal B renovation project is one part of a bigger upgrade plan at IAH. In October 2024, the airport opened the Terminal D-West Pier, which boasts six new gates. These gates can accommodate big planes with flexibility for smaller ones.

The ongoing renovations at Houston Airport Terminal B might cause temporary inconvenience to travelers, but the changes will make flying better in the future.
