As India is taking safety measures in view of the ongoing tensions with Pakistan, airport security has been increased across the country. Reportedly, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has ordered strict checks and additional safety measures across the country.

What steps are being taken to tighten airport security amid India-Pakistan tensions?

Amid the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, security has been increased all across the country, including airports. Some of the safety measures include:

  1. Thorough Screening of All Passengers: All airports in India now have to follow mandatory Secondary Ladder Point Checks (SLPC), as a passenger, you will go through a final check just before boarding.
  2. No Entry for Visitors in Terminal Buildings: As a precaution, authorities have now banned visitor entry into terminal buildings. If you have a valid ticket, you will be allowed inside.
  3. Temporary Closure of Airports in India: Around 27 Indian airports across North, West and Central region have been shut until May 10. This airport shutdown has impacted over 430 flights

4. Airlines Taking Initiatives to Avoid Passenger Inconvenience: Major Airlines such as Air India have taken swift action. While some flights have been rerouted, several have been cancelled. Passengers on affected routes are being offered rebooking or refunds where applicable. Airlines are also helping passengers with alternate travel options.

International carriers like United Airlines and American Airlines have also cancelled their scheduled flights to Delhi due to escalating India Pakistan tensions. The airlines further stated they will reassess operations based on how the situation unfolds.

5. Authorities are Monitoring the Situation: Both the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) are monitoring the situation amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan. They are working with security forces to manage the situation and ensure smooth operations.
