The 12th International Tourism Mart (ITM) is currently underway in Kaziranga, Assam, starting on November 26 and continuing until November 29, 2024. Sponsored by the Indian government’s Ministry of Tourism, this event showcases the vast tourism potential of the northeastern states of India, including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim. The selection of Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as one of the venues further highlights the splendour of the region’s ecology and culture.

This year’s International Tourism Mart has attracted over 400 participants, comprising a variety of stakeholders such as tour operators, hoteliers, homestay owners, and foreign students. The Mart also supports the Ministry’s “Travel for Life” campaign, which calls for action to address issues of sustainable tourism by promoting energy efficiency and reducing single-use plastic.

The richness of the agenda owes itself to the variety and complexity of events, including state government presentations, B2B meetings, cultural nights, and live musical performances. Stakeholders can also experience local flavors in food offerings and purchase local arts and crafts at the North East Bazaar. Site visits to famous locations such as Charaideo Moidam, the newest entry on the list of Indian UNESCO World Heritage Sites, or Hathikuli Tea Estate, Orchid and Biodiversity Park, provide fascinating insights into the culture of the area.

International Tourism Mart 2024 seeks to promote North East India as a destination for both domestic and foreign tourists by institutionalizing sustainable tourism practices and bringing together all stakeholders. This further emphasizes the critical importance of the tourism industry in safeguarding the cultural and natural treasures of the region, making it a spectacular platform to showcase the inimitable beauty and diversity of the Northeast.
