In a bid to promote tourism at Mantalai in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, a huge International Yoga center is being built here. The 97.82 crore project undertaken by the National Projects Construction Corporation (NPCC) is likely to be completed by March 2021. It is going to be the biggest Yoga center in Jammu and Kashmir.
The 125-acre land in Mantalai, where this yoga center is being built, is famous as the location of the decrepit Yoga Ashram of the late Dhirendra Brahmachari. He was the Yoga teacher of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Dr. Piyush Singla, Deputy Commissioner of Udhampur, is quoted as saying, “Yoga is part of life. Mantalai area has been famous for Yoga activities because of Dhirender Bhramchari. To give a fillip to the area, the government launched the international Mantalai Yoga center.”
The International Yoga center in Mantalai is part of a larger project called “Integrated Development of Tourist facilities at Mantalai-Sudhmahadev-Patnitop under Himalayan Circuit,” implemented under the “Swadesh Darshan” scheme. This scheme was launched by the Ministry of Tourism, with the aim of developing potential tourist spots in the country.
Although the construction of Mantalai’s Yoga Center was scheduled to be finished by November 2020, it got delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Other facilities like swimming pool, airstrip, helipad, spa, gymnasium, auditorium, hostels, and business convention center at this Yoga Center are underway. The Yoga center, spa area, and treatment center are planned such that they accommodate 60-70 people at any given time.

These world-class arrangements are expected to provide impetus to leisure and health tourism, along with fostering the local economy. However, the long-term focus is to connect this Yoga center to Vaishno Devi Shrine in Katra, Jammu.
About Yoga:

Thus, the all-encompassing purpose of Yoga ranges from achieving harmony between mind, body, and soul at a basic level to uniting the individual consciousness with the universal consciousness at a spiritual level.
