Commissioned by the powerful Emperor Shah Jahan and constructed in 1632, the stunning Chashme Shahi Mughal garden was meant to be a gift from the emperor to Prince Dara Shikoh. Among the most gorgeous Mughal gardens of Srinagar, Chashme Shahi Garden’s name means the Royal Spring. It was christened so after Rupa Bhawani who is credited with discovering the natural spring within the garden. It is believed the spring has medicinal properties and it flows through the three-terraced garden sections.
