Odisha’s renowned Bhitarkanika National Park has welcomed tourists once again after a three-month closure for the annual census of estuarine crocodiles from May 1 to July 31. The park is now open for day visitors as well as those who wish to have an enchanting night stay in cozy cottages and guest houses during their Odisha travel.

The forest department has also taken steps to attract tourists from India and abroad by offering rest house facilities in Dangamala, Gupti, Habalikothi, and Eakakula. The reopening comes after a period of ensuring disturbance-free annual nesting of crocodiles. They tend to become more aggressive and may attack intruders during this sensitive time.

Before planning a visit to the Bhitarkanika National Park, it’s crucial to be aware of the ban on using plastic disposables in protected areas. Authorities strongly advise tourists against littering plastic bottles or carrying polythene and other non-biodegradable items into the forest. The park strictly follows a green protocol. It aims to preserve its pristine environment and wildlife. The national parks remain open during monsoon.

Tourists are majorly attracted to the boat journeys along the scenic mangrove-covered water bodies at Bhitarkanika. On any given day, the park sees 350 to 400 visitors taking boat trips to experience the breathtaking beauty of this natural wonder.

The Bhitarkanika National Park boasts an impressive array of wildlife. It includes mammals like wild boars, leopards, hyenas, jungle cats, and fishing cats. Additionally, the park is home to sambar deer, palm squirrels, and Gangetic dolphins. The park serves as the abode for diverse reptilian creatures. These include turtles, including the esteemed Olive Ridley sea turtle. It also houses lizards, crocodiles, water monitors, pythons, and majestic king cobras. Birdwatching aficionados and enthusiasts of ornithology will undoubtedly rejoice. The park’s confines have witnessed the spotting of approximately 166 avian species. This renders it a true haven for avid birdwatchers.

A unique aspect of Bhitarkanika National Park is its contribution to the preservation of mangrove genes. Researchers have discovered 11 out of the 70 mangrove species in this national park. These species were facing the threat of extinction worldwide.

For those looking to explore Odisha and visit Bhitarkanika National Park, it is essential to know how to reach Bhitarkanika National Park. The park can be accessed via various modes of transportation, including roads and rail. You can book cheap flights to India through Indian Eagle tickets and then opt for a road trip.

In conclusion, Odisha’s Bhitarkanika National Park is a gem that has reopened its gates to welcome nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers who came to enjoy their Odisha travel. It offers an unforgettable experience with its diverse flora and fauna. The captivating boat journeys add to its allure. Moreover, there is a strong commitment to preserving the natural environment. So, plan your trip, follow the protocol, and immerse yourself in the beauty of Bhitarkanika’s untouched wilderness.
