Airlines have been implementing changes and using new technology to make their operations sustainable. In a monumental step towards a greener future, Dallas-based Southwest Airlines has signed a massive deal with USA BioEnergy, LLC. The agreement paves the way for the purchase of up to 680 million gallons of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This could be a 20-year partnership that might kick off as early as 2028. With this SAF deal, Southwest Airlines and USA BioEnergy aim to do their part in reducing the carbon footprint in the aviation industry.

Southwest Airlines to Get Additional Sustainable Aviation Fuel

As Southwest Airlines and USA BioEnergy partner, the airline will be able to acquire an additional 180 million gallons of SAF, providing even more eco-friendly power to their flight operations. This is a milestone in the airline’s progress in developing a SAF portfolio. It will also be another step in Southwest Airlines’ goal of replacing 10% of its total jet fuel consumption with SAF by 2030.
