From May 1, 2025, Thailand will introduce a compulsory digital arrival card for all international visitors. The move is designed to boost border security and prevent human trafficking by simplifying the immigration process and enhancing data collection.

What Is the Digital Arrival Card?

The digital arrival card Thailand is an electronic document that visitors need to fill out prior to entering the country. It is a replacement for the old paper-based arrival and departure cards. Notably, Thailand’s new Digital Arrival cards can be processed more quickly at immigration points. The digital system captures necessary information, such as personal information, travel plans, and addresses of accommodations, which helps authorities track and manage foreign entries better.

Why the Change?

Thailand’s shift towards a digital system is one that is geared towards overall modernization of its immigration processes and dealing with issues that pertain to illegal practices such as human trafficking. Digitizing the process of arrival is a means through which the government seeks to increase transparency, minimize fraudulent intake, and promote the safety of residents and visitors.

How to get the Digital Arrival Card?

Tourists can obtain the electronic arrival card via the Thai government’s official immigration website or a specialized mobile application. It includes entering the necessary details and uploading them online beforehand. At the official entry into Thailand, tourists will show an immigration officer a QR code that the system has produced.

How will it impact the travelers?

This new requirement will be applied to all foreign visitors, regardless of nationality or the reason for visit. It is important that travelers fill out the digital arrival card prior to travel to prevent delays or entry complications upon arrival. This is also part of the new Thailand travel requirements, added to current visa and health rules.

Although the digital arrival card is a new feature, travelers are still required to comply with current Thailand travel visa regulations. Depending on where you’re from, you might need to acquire a visa prior to traveling. It’s best to verify the current visa regulations and have all documents in place to ensure an easy entry into Thailand.
