The Forbidden City

Also known as the Imperial Palace, the Forbidden City is an imperial palace built during the Ming Dynasty and has been the residence of various Chinese emperors. The Forbidden City was used by the Qing dynasty rulers as the main place where various formal ceremonies were held. Also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it has the biggest set of well-preserved ancient structures that are made of wood – they are also some of the oldest in the world. Many of its treasures were looted by the British and are now held on display around the world in various museums including sculptures, jades, silk robes, and other golden artifacts.
