Lufthansa is all set to elevate its short-haul flight experience by retrofitting its Airbus A320-200 aircraft. These upgrades will provide more convenience and comfort to passengers on their shorter journeys. As airlines keep improving their aircraft and in-flight services, this German carrier too is working on providing the best to its passengers. Increased Overhead Storage Space

One significant improvement is the expansion of overhead storage space, increasing it by a remarkable 40%. This enhancement allows travelers to stow their carry-on luggage vertically, eliminating the hassle of squeezing them in sideways or at awkward angles. With this extra room, loading and unloading bags become quicker and more straightforward.

Timeline for Upgrades

The Lufthansa Airbus A320 cabin upgrades are likely in the spring of 2025. Over the course of the next two years, the upgrades will be progressively implemented, with the project scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. This rollout will affect 38 of the Airbus A320s currently in Lufthansa’s fleet.

Ergonomic Seating and Added Legroom

Passengers can also look forward to improved seating arrangements. Lufthansa is collaborating with Italian manufacturer Geven to create new seats with ergonomic backrests. These seats provide increased legroom without compromising on seat spacing, offering a more comfortable experience for travelers across all classes.

In-Seat Power and Device Holders

In response to passengers’ growing reliance on electronic devices, the Lufthansa Airbus A320 cabin upgrades will also include the installation of dedicated USB ports in each seat. This addition will allow passengers to charge their mobile devices conveniently during their flight. While in-seat power is more common on long-haul international flight tickets, it is now making its way to shorter journeys.

Additionally, all seats will be equipped with holders designed specifically for tablets and smartphones. This feature will enable travelers to enjoy entertainment or work on their devices more comfortably. Moreover, it will free up space on the folding tables, making them more versatile for various uses.

Future Business Class Cabin

The upgrades are not limited to short-haul flights. Lufthansa is also introducing a new business class cabin called Allegris. This cabin will be retrofitted in Airbus A380s and Boeing 747-8s, enhancing the premium travel experience on these aircraft. Moreover, Allegris is expected to feature in the airline’s upcoming Airbus Dreamliners and A350s.

With these Lufthansa Airbus A320 cabin upgrades, the airline aims to provide an improved and contemporary travel experience for its passengers, whether they are on short-haul journeys or long-haul flights.
