Noida International Airport has become one of the much-talked-about upcoming airports in India since its foundation stone was laid by PM Narendra Modi on November 25, 2021. Why? This greenfield airport being constructed in the National Capital Region (NCR) would ease the congestion at Indira Gandhi International Airport – the busiest airport in the country and also improve air connectivity to and from Noida – the fastest-growing business and commercial hub in the country. It will be a digital airport equipped with state-of-the-art technology to enable seamless passenger flow through the airport, nearly contactless travel and personalized services for families/the elderly and business travelers.

According to the proposed plan, Noida Airport or Jewar airport will be built across four phases and when fully functional, it will have a capacity to handle 60 million passengers per annum. Moreover, it will also be the largest airport in India with the highest number of runways (a total of 6 runways) by the end of the fourth phase.

For now, the first phase of Noida International Airport has begun and the construction of the runway, terminal, and ATC (Air Traffic Control) Tower is progressing at a rapid pace, as per the recent updates. The Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), the airport operator, has entrusted Tata Projects Ltd. with the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC project) of Noida International Airport. Thus, Tata Projects took up the construction of the terminal, runway, airside infrastructure, roads, utilities, landside facilities, and other ancillary buildings at the airport.

In another development, ICAD Holding Ltd, which was selected as the Master System Integrator consultant, will look after the systems integration design, integration program management, and integration of ICT and Airport Systems besides leading the core airport systems implementation and integration.

The first phase of construction of Noida International Airport is expected to be completed by 2024, and the airport would begin operations with one runway and a terminal.

Where is Noida Airport located?

Noida Airport lies toward the east of the Yamuna Expressway in Gautam Buddha Nagar, about 70 km away from Delhi Airport.
