The longest luxury river cruise service in India will soon connect Uttar Pradesh and Assam. In order to promote the development of inland waterways, the government of India plans to launch Ganga Vilas, the world’s longest river cruise, in January 2023, from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to Dibrugarh in Assam via Bangladesh. The cruise will sail from Varanasi to Dibrugarh in 50 days, covering 27 river systems and visiting more than 50 tourist sites, including World Heritage Sites.
This is India’s first river ship, and it will transport passengers between Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and Bogibeel in Assam, covering a route distance of over 4,000 kilometers. The Sundarbans Delta and Kaziranga National Park will be among the national parks and sanctuaries visited by the ship. It will also pass through Kolkata and Dhaka before arriving in Bogibeel, Assam’s Dibrugarh district. Exploring the natural wonders of the world’s largest mangrove forest, visiting Mayong, witnessing the ancient Ganga Aarti, and discovering the untold cultural riches of the world’s largest river island are all highlights of the tour.
The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), Antara Luxury River Cruises, and JM Baxi River Cruises will operate the cruise under the PPP model. The cruise is expected to provide residents in Assam with the opportunity to use inland waterways for cargo, transportation, trade, and other purposes. The new cruise is also expected to boost tourism between the two states, attracting both locals and tourists to these destinations.
Ganga Vilas has a one-of-a-kind design with 18 suites and all other amenities. This exciting river cruise will begin operations in early 2023. It will undoubtedly be a unique experience in these tourist destinations, as well as a major draw for all visitors.
