The Chicago based airlines, United decided to extend its suspension on flights to Hong Kong and China. United Airlines joined the large list of air carriers that have canceled flights to China due to the corona virus outbreak. The fear of this epidemic led to the decrease in flight demand to China.
China is the second largest air travel market in the world and the rapid spread of this virus has dipped sales resulting in isolation. United Airlines initially stated the flights to Hong Kong would resume by 20th February and flights to Mainland China would commence in late March.
However, as the corona virus continues to rapidly spread, the U.S., State Department issued a “Do not travel” statement. The Department warned the people of the dangers of traveling to China and began disease control in the country. It has also set up prevention quarantines for people who visited China in the recent past.
Before the outbreak, United served China on a regular basis with a dozen flights flying to the country. Delta Airlines and American Airlines won’t resume flights to China until late April but it depends on the virus control.
A statement from a United Airlines spokesperson was issued, it reads, “As we continue to evaluate our operation between our U.S. hubs and Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai and Hong Kong, we have decided to extend the suspension of those flights until April 24.”
The spokesperson also ensured the matter is constantly being monitored, “We will continue to monitor the situation in China and evaluate our schedule as we remain in close contact with the CDC and other public health experts around the globe.”
The virus outbreak has caused panic around the world and travelers need to know about the rising fear around Corona virus. It emerged late last year documenting over 16,000 cases and killing 1,383 people. However, on the brighter side, over 5,000 people diagnosed with the virus have recovered including the one patient in the United States.
Although world health experts are tirelessly working towards this sudden outbreak, the virus seems to be unstoppable. More and more countries have joined the list for treating positive Coronavirus patients. Earlier, the spread of Coronavirus in India was said to be in control but the country has announced two more cases.
