Jim Corbett National Park to Ban Overnight Stay This Monsoon

On 15 June 2022, the Jim Corbett National Park in India made the
announcement to temporarily close its overnight stay facility for the safety
of its visitors.

One representative of the park has said that it is during monsoon that most
animals mate and when they do, they are rather easily irritable and
annoyed. That, in addition to the muddy, uneven roads, there will be
imminent danger to people at this time. Heavy rains in this area are also a
threat for visitors who are not familiar with the area.

The Jim Corbett National Park was the first of its kind in India, named after
an eminent British naturalist and conservationist. Usually, overnight stays
are allowed in the park for an experience of sleeping in the wild.

This monsoon, only certain zones, unaffected by rains, will be operational.
Dhikla will be closed for safaris from 15 June 2022; the Ramnagar division
of Sitwani will be closed on 30 June 2022; the Bijrani zone will close from
30 June 2022. Overnight stays may reopen post-monsoon or in the months
of October and November.

This decision might be a good one for its visitors, but
Jim Corbett National Park is expected to lose some of its footfalls from the whopping
2,77,389 in this year’s monsoon.
